A: I have some news that should whet your appetite.The Governor vetoed the bill.

B: It looks like the tide has turned in our favor.

A: 구미 당길만한 소식이 있어. 주지사가 그 법안을 거부했다고 하더라.

B: 형세가 우리에게 유리해진 것 같네.

 

whet one’s appetite: ‘Whet’은 ‘(욕구, 흥미 등을) 돋우다, 동하게 하다’라는 뜻이다. the tide has turned: ‘The turning of the tide(조수의 변조)’는 말그대로 물결이 밀물에서 썰물로, 혹은 그 반대로 바뀌는 모습을 떠올리면 된다.
