A : I found some wild strawberries in our backyard last week. The berries were so delicate and pretty, but when I tasted one, it tasted nothing like the strawberries I am used to.

B : That is because the ones we eat has been domesticated for years.

A : “지난 주 뒷마당에서 자라는 야생딸기를 봤어. 그 딸기가 너무 우아하고 예뻐 보였는데, 막상 맛을 보니까 익숙한 딸기맛과 완전히 달라.”

B : “그렇게 맛이 같다고 느끼는 이유는 그동안 집에서 먹은 딸기가 사실은 마트에서 사온 게 아니라 집에서 기른 것들이라서 그래.”

정의를 보면 to bring animals or plants under human control in order to provide food, power or companionship. 동물이나 식물을 집에서 가꾸면서 그것들을 먹을거리로 삼거나 도움을 얻고나 벗으로 삼는 것이다.
