A: I watched the movie Argo last night.

I like movies with historical or political narratives, such as Schindler’s List and Syriana.

B: I don’t really like those kinds of movies. It’s so daunting to even try to understand the storyline.

A: 난 지난밤에 영화 아르고를 봤어. 난 쉰들러 리스트나 시리아나처럼 역사적 혹은 정치적인 이야기가 담긴 영화를 좋더라.

B: 난 그런 부류의 영화를 좋아하지 않아. 그 영화들은 줄거리를 이해하려고 시도하는 것 조차 벅차.

 

narrative의 사전적 의미는 ‘(특히 소설 속 사건들에 대한)묘사’, ‘서술’이다. 어원은 마찬가지로 ‘말하다’, ‘서술하다’라는 뜻을 가진 라틴어 narrare에서 유래했다. 유사한 표현으로는 tale, storytelling, account 등이 있다.
