You need to learn to walk before you can learn to run.

A: 새 컴퓨터 프로그램은 도저히 감이 안 잡혀.

B: 설명서 읽었어? 뛰려고 하기 전에 걷는 법부터 배워야지.

Get the hang of (something): 연습한 후에 무언가를 능숙하게 다룰 수 있게 되다. You need to learn to walk before you can learn to run: 이 표현은 차근차근 단계별로 해나가야 하며, 다음 단계로 넘어가기 전에 기본을 익혀야 한다는 뜻이다.
