A: Some guys came in this morning and installed something in the ceiling.

B: Oh, That’s just a smoke detector.

A: Does it monitor us to see if we’re smoking?

B: No. It’s just there in case of a fire.

 

A: 어떤 남자들이 오늘 아침에 와서 천장에 뭔가를 설치했어.

B: 아, 그건 연기 탐지기야.

A: 만약 우리가 흡연하면 그게 우리를 감시할까?

B: 아냐. 그건 그냥 불이 났을 경우에만 그래.

 

monitor는 ‘(긴 기간을 두고 무엇의 전개발달 과정을)추적관찰하다’, ‘(정보를 얻기 위해 전화방송 등을)모니터감시하다’라는 의미를 가지고 있다.
