A: Did you read that article about the gene that causes Alzheimer’s?

B: Yes, but they are still far from cure.

A: Why do you say that? B: Because they haven’t done any empirical research.

A: 알츠하이머를 유발하는 유전자에 관한 기사 봤어?

B:응, 하지만 그들은 여전히 치유하는 것과는 거리가 멀어.

A:왜 그렇게 말하는 거야? B:왜냐하면 그들은 어떠한 실증적 조사도 하지 않았기 때문이지.

 

empirical : ‘경험[실험]에 의거한’, ‘실증적인’이란 사전적 의미를 지녔다. ‘~안에’를 뜻하는 접두어 em과 ‘경험’을 뜻하는 희랍어 peira가 결합했다.
