A: I read that bird watchers have identified over twenty species of birds that had never been seen in Korea before. / B: Do you mean new species of birds?

A: Just new to Korea. For some reason they deviated from their traditional migratory pattern. / B: It must have something to do with global warming.

A: 조류관찰자들이 한국에서 발견된 적 없는 20여 종이 넘는 새들을 확인했다는 것에 대해 읽었어. B: 새로운 종의 새들이라는 거야?

A: 한국에서만 새롭지. 무슨 이유인지 새들이 그들의 전통적인 이주패턴을 벗어났거든.

B: 그건 지구 온난화와 관계된 일인 게 틀림없어.

deviate는 동사로서 ‘벗어나다’, ‘빗나가다’라는 사전적 의미를 가지고 있다. 어원은 ‘이탈하다’, ‘빗나가다’ 등의 뜻을 가진 라틴어 deviare에서 유래했다.
