A: Who do you think is going to win the presidential election in the U.S.?

B: I’m sure it will be the Democrats. A: Why do you think so?

B: There is too much internal conflict in the Republican Party.

A: 넌 누가 미국 대통령 선거에서 승리할 거라고 생각해?

B: 분명히 민주당일 거야. A: 왜 그렇게 생각하는데?

B: 공화당에는 내부 분쟁이 너무 많아.

 

conflict는 명사로서 ‘(사람이나 국가들 사이의 이해관계로 인한) 갈등’, ‘(국가 간의) 물리적 충돌’을 의미한다. 어원은 ‘충돌’과 ‘분쟁’을 뜻하는 라틴어 conflictus에서 유래했으며 유사한 표현으로는 dispute, opposition, friction 등이 있다.
